Adding a Server Group to ServeraSuite

One of the first things that needs to be done, upon opening ServeraSuite is adding a "Server Group" to the system.

You can add as many as you wish, but it is important that you know how to add a Server Group appropriately.

There are a few methods to get started to adding a new Server Group.

As shown in Figure 1.1, you can click on the Add Server Group icon, located directly above the left panel, where your server group list is.

Alternative you can go to File > New Server Group as shown in Figure 1.2

No matter which you choose, you will be presented with a new window, as shown below.

Upon looking at this window, you can see that it is fairly straight forward.  However, there are some things you should know before getting started.
  1. The top box is going to be the name of your server group.  It will only be used to identify the server/server group, in the Server Groups tree menu, and in outgoing notification emails.
  2. the Server Type will identify the type or OS of the server you are monitoring, and will allow ServeraSuite to determine what features are available for that Server Group.
  3. The Domain Name or IP field should be the domain of the server, and should not include "http://www" or a trailing slash ("/").  For example, this should be either format... "domain.com" or "123.456.78.9"
  4. The Server Login Information is where you really need to take care.  This user should have SSH abilities.  However, keep in mind that only root users have SSH reboot and restart abilities.  If the user you enter here has SSH abilities but is not the root user, you will not be able to restart services or reboot servers.
  5. The Server Load Max is where you will set the maximum server load that this server/server group can handle before it becomes unstable.  All servers are different depending on hardware (processor, etc).  We have it set at a default 2.00 as this is standard.  Your server may be able to handle up to 5.00, etc.
  6. When you are done filling out the form, press Save Server Group and your new group will be added to the list, shown on the left of ServeraSuite.
